On a day when people across Sri Lanka collectively practice the art of giving back to society, afi cares came together to honour the values of compassion and generosity by organizing an ice cream dansala for the community at Off Alfred House Avenue, Colombo 03, Sri Lanka.
The initiative left behind wide smiles across the faces of children, families travelling in vehicles, corporate workers, and community workers who simply needed a refreshing break from their everyday life. As volunteers served ice cream to passersby and people standing in the unexpectedly long queue, the dansala became a moment for sharing cool sweetness amongst over 500 people during the hot afternoon moments, sparking joy and excitement.
As Buddhists throughout Sri Lanka celebrate the introduction of Buddhism to the country by engaging in countless dansala’s, lighting of lanterns, and pandols adorning the streets, afi cares was able to contribute to the long-standing Sri Lankan tradition which encourages communities to come together serving one another through this initiative. As we commemorate significant cultural and religious occasions, we are reminded that the ability to give back to society is in itself a gift.
The sincerity and generosity embodied by our team members was palpable through the ice cream dansala. Therefore, we at afi cares remain committed to creating opportunities that foster happiness, compassion, and meaningful differences in the lives of those around us.
