As a part of our commitment to giving back to the community, this afi cares initiative led by Haritha Migara aimed to deliver essential medical, hygiene, and nutritional supplies to the Child Care Development Center (Ruhunu). Controlled by the Southern Provincial Probation and Child Care Services Department, the facility functions as a protective developmental home for young children. At present, there are 56 children residing at the center, making the availability of essential healthcare and hygiene resources an important component of their day-to-day well-being.
Recognizing these needs, the initiative focused on coordinating the procurement, quality checking, and direct delivery of essential supplies to ensure that the support provided was practical, timely, and responsive to the requirements underscored by the development center. The team, therefore, prepared and distributed 10 Comprehensive Care Bags, with their contents tailored to the needs and age profiles of the children at the center.
The donation included 05 packs of Nan 1 and Nan 2 which are used to complement child development, nutrition, and to strengthen the immune system (Life Pharmacy, 2023). Additionally, each of the ten bags included a range of essential healthcare and personal-care supplies. Each of the ten bags included equal amounts of essential paediatric medicines and healthcare supplies.
This comprehensive approach shown by our team towards the requirements of children at the Ruhunu Child Care Development Centre represents the commitment to responding to the everyday needs of children who require care, protection, and support. By directing resources towards essential healthcare, hygiene, and nutritional requirements, afi cares seeks to contribute to creating a healthier and more secure environment for children at the center.
This initiative contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 02: Zero Hunger by addressing the nutritional needs of vulnerable groups, including infants and young children. Furthermore, the project aligns with SDG 03: Good Health and Well-being as it seeks to ensure the health and well-being of newborns and children under the age of 5 years. Not only that, but the initiative also aligns with SDG 01: No Poverty by directing essential resources towards children in care and helping address their needs associated with their well-being.
Creating a better tomorrow begins by addressing the needs of communities today. Through initiatives such as these, afi cares remains committed to extending meaningful, focused, and impactful support to communities so as to create environments where everyone can thrive and every child has an equal opportunity to grow, to develop, and to live happily.
