Located in Hatton, in an area where access to the school itself presents difficulties, Ingestre Tamil Vidyalaya was in need to several infrastructure and resource-related support. During our visit, we observed that the overall condition of the school requires attention with sections of the school building remaining incomplete and certain areas requiring improvements to ensure safer and more conductive environment for students and teachers.
Following discussions with the school, the team identified several immediate needs where targeted support could make a meaningful difference.
One of the key requests was for a teacher’s cupboard, which would provide the school with a secure and organized space to store students’ examination papers, important documents, and other essential school materials. By addressing this need, the initiative aims to improve the organization and safe storage of important resources within the school.
In addition to providing the storage facility, afi cares also supported construction work to establish a drainage channel with a raised planter. This intervention was particularly important as rainwater flowing through the existing drainage system was entering the school premises. The raised planter serves as a barrier, helping to redirect and contain the flow of water and reducing the risk of rainwater entering the school grounds. It contributes to creating a safer and more pleasant environment for students and staff.
Rather than focusing solely on material assistance, the initiative sought to address the practical challenges affecting the school’s day-to-day functioning and physical environment. By doing so, the initiative contributed to SDG 04: Quality Education, through supporting a more inclusive and conductive learning environment for students in a school facing resource- and infrastructure-related challenges. Additionally, the initiative supports SDG 01: No Poverty, by providing access to essential resources and alleviating some of the financial and infrastructural constraints faced by the school.
Through these such initiatives, we remain committed to working alongside communities to identify meaningful areas of support and creating lasting value through initiatives that respond to their needs.
