Facilitating Essential Amenities to a Differently Abled Persons Home
Nestled in the hills of Thalgahadeniya, Algama is the Subodha Differently Abled Persons Rehabilitation Home, a home dedicated to providing support, dignity, and comfort to differently abled persons in need. The Home severely lacks funding and the necessary infrastructure to provide a comfortable environment for its residents. The bathrooms were in a debilitated state, and the residents lacked sufficient bedding and pillows. This need was required for its 11 residents to improve their quality of life.
Objectives
This project aimed to:
- Improve the bathroom facilities at the care home by providing 2 commodes for the home;
- Improve the quality of life of the residents;
- Provide comfortable bedding for all residents of the care home.
Implementation Methodology
The project was implemented with the collaboration of the management of the Subodha Differently Abled Persons Home. The care home was selected based on its lack of funding and requirement for immediate attention. The team initially visited the site to better understand its requirements and actively engaged with the management during the planning time period in order to ensure that all materials required for its implementation are secured.
Outcomes
Afi cares was able to improve the bathroom facilities of the care home, which was severely underfunded, lacked the necessary infrastructure, and was in a debilitated state. Furthermore, afi cares successfully provided the necessary bedding and pillows to all residents of the care home ensuring that their quality of life is significantly improved.
Challenges
Due to the distance to the project location, it was difficult for the project members to oversee the execution.
