At AFI Corp, we believe that meaningful change begins by caring for those most in need. Through our corporate social responsibility initiative, AFI Cares, we remain committed to supporting vulnerable communities across Sri Lanka with compassion, dignity, and purpose.
As part of our October 2025 initiative, AFI Cares extended its support to the Sarvodaya Suwasetha Nutrition Centre in Moratuwa, a facility dedicated to the care and nourishment of infants and young children under institutional care. The centre plays a vital role in supporting children from newborns up to five years of age, ensuring they receive proper nutrition, hygiene, and care during their most formative years.
Following a needs assessment conducted in collaboration with the centre, AFI Cares focused on providing essential items required for daily operations and childcare. By strengthening these core facilities, the initiative aimed to directly improve the quality of nutrition and care provided to the children.
This project was led by the Shorelight Team, whose dedication and teamwork ensured the successful planning and execution of the initiative. From coordinating purchases and logistics to organizing the visit and donation, the team worked closely to ensure that the support reached the centre in a timely and meaningful manner.
During the visit in late October, the AFI Cares team spent time at the centre, gaining firsthand insight into the care provided to the children and the challenges faced by caregivers. The experience reinforced the importance of supporting early childhood nutrition and well-being, and highlighted the profound impact that even simple resources can have on young lives.
This initiative aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. By improving access to nutritious meals, promoting healthier living conditions, and extending support to underprivileged children, AFI Cares continues to work toward reducing disparities and creating equitable opportunities for growth and development.
The initiative was designed to deliver sustainable, long-term impact by addressing the centre’s everyday needs. Improved cooking facilities and adequate hygiene supplies will enable the Sarvodaya Suwasetha Nutrition Centre to continue its essential work more effectively, supporting healthier outcomes for the children in its care.
As AFI Cares moves forward, we remain steadfast in our mission to uplift communities and create lasting positive impact one thoughtful initiative at a time. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Shorelight Team and everyone who contributed to making this project a success, and we look ahead with continued commitment to nurturing hope, health, and opportunity for Sri Lanka’s future generations.
