This January marked the turning point in the life of a single mother from Passara within the Badulla District as the AFI Cares team brought renewed hope for a brighter future. Continuing our legacy dedicated towards supporting individuals in need and uplifting communities, this initiative left a lasting impression by facilitating the livelihood of their household.
The project revolves around the story of a resilient mother who operates a spice and flour grinding mill while taking care of her son. Understanding the physical demand, the intensity of the labor required, and daily challenges associated with grinding grains and spices using a mortar and pestle, this AFI Cares initiative provided a mill grinder machine to the mother, empowering her small business and creating a lasting positive impact in the family’s life.
By making sure that the initiative creates a long-term influence, improves the lives of the family, and provides necessary resources for a sustainable income for a woman, the project particularly fulfils the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 01: No Poverty and 05: Gender Equality. The venture towards empowering women’s entrepreneurship had a profound impact on reducing the financial strain their family was burdened with, provided the foundation for economic stability and a prosperous future.
Empowering the sole provider of a family means uplifting the entire family. Through supporting one dedicated mother, this initiative creates a ripple effect of positive change that strengthens the entire family and lays the groundwork for a brighter future. AFI Cares’ unwavering commitment towards improving the quality of life of underserved communities thereby brought increased stability and a more efficient income to a family in need. We’re truly thankful for the AFI 01 team for stepping in to make a tangible difference in the entrepreneurial journey of a mother, the sole income of a family, and a better future for her child.
