A Legacy of Compassion, Service, and Trust

Updated: 18 hours ago

At AFI Cares, we are often reminded while engaging with communities across Sri Lanka that

the most meaningful acts of service are those carried out in sincerity – eloquently and from

the heart. This belief was reaffirmed during a recent visit by an individual who thoroughly

embodies these values: renowned former cricketer, a key member of Sri Lanka’s victorious

1996 Cricket World Cup team, and a celebrated humanitarian, Mr. Roshan Mahanama.

Long before the establishment of the Roshan Mahanama Trust, Mr. Mahanama had already

dedicated himself to supporting communities in need. He stood alongside individuals

striving to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami and the 2019 Easter

Sunday Attacks, among many other moments of national hardship. His commitment

towards giving and helping others was one that was deeply rooted in a sense of

responsibility which evolved overtime into the Roshan Mahanama Trust we see today.

It is, therefore, with honor and pride that we share our contribution towards the Roshan

Mahanama Trust this March. A Trust that actively engages in creating a better world for

children in need of safety, care, and opportunity. Building establishments that protect

children who require a safe haven one at a time in each province in Sri Lanka, he carries

forward a noble cause together with other reliable organizations within which he is

recognized as an ambassador.

This shared commitment shown by our team and the Roshan Mahanama Trust to

meaningful and people-centered impact aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals

(SDGs), particularly SDG 01: No Poverty and SDG 03: Good Health and Well-Being as we

work collectively to uplift communities and improve the lives of children from the

grassroots level. As we move forward, we carry with us the enduring message shared by Mr.

Roshan Mahanama: that a true legacy is built through the sincerity that shapes our actions.
