Bringing Dignity and Comfort to the Elders of Kengalle

In June 2025, AFI Cares successfully carried out a meaningful CSR initiative at the Elders’ Home located on Menikhinna Kengalla Road in Sri Lanka. This home, operated by the District Secretariat, provides care and shelter for elderly individuals who have no family support and are entirely dependent on government assistance. 

As part of our commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, the AFI team visited the Elders’ Home with the goal of enhancing the comfort, mobility, and emotional well-being of its residents. The facility had previously identified several essential needs that were beyond their limited resources, including a wheelchair, walking sticks, an audio box for spiritual programs, curtains, serving spoons, and water bottles. 

We were able to donate many of the requested items, including a wheelchair and other necessities that will help improve daily living conditions for the residents. These provisions are more than just tools; they represent dignity, respect, and a renewed sense of care for individuals who have given much to society and now deserve our attention in return. 

On the day of the visit, AFI also organized and served a wholesome meal to all the elders and caretakers at the facility. Equally important was the time spent engaging with the residents, listening to their stories, sharing laughter, and offering companionship. This emotional connection brought light and warmth to many, reinforcing the power of human interaction and empathy. 

This initiative also directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. By providing mobility aids and daily essentials, we helped improve the physical health and safety of the elders. The spiritual audio box and personal interaction nurtured their emotional and mental wellness. Together, these efforts promote holistic well-being, ensuring that elders are not only cared for but also valued and uplifted in their later years. 

The impact of this initiative was felt immediately. Residents expressed heartfelt appreciation for the thoughtful donations, particularly the mobility aids and spiritual audio box, which brought both practical relief and joy. Caretakers were equally grateful for the support, noting how these contributions help uplift the entire environment of the home. 

This project is a testament to AFI’s belief that every elder deserves to age with dignity, comfort, and love. It also reflects our ongoing effort to reach communities that are often overlooked, delivering not just goods, but compassion and respect.
