Rural schools in Sri Lanka face immense challenges due to severe resource shortages and a lack of basic infrastructure, leaving students without access to quality education and limiting their future opportunities. Giri/Kithaladeniya Junior School, nestled in the serene village of Kithaladeniya, Dambadeniya, is emblematic of these struggles. Serving 51 students, many of whom come from families facing dire economic hardships, the school strives to rise above its circumstances to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Despite the difficulties, the school has embarked on an ambitious project to transform its facilities and create a brighter future for its students. The initiative aims to introduce an outdoor learning space, increase access to technology by expanding the number of functional computers, and equip the library to cultivate a love for reading and improve literacy skills. These enhancements are critical to shaping a new path for the students, offering them the chance to reach their full potential.
AFI Corp, through its flagship social responsibility initiative AFI Cares, contributed to this project, championing SDG 4: Quality Education, ensuring that these young minds have equitable access to educational resources, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, addressing the significant disparities faced by underserved rural communities.
Our support is more than just about providing resources—it’s about reinforcing hope and possibility. We believe that by investing in the holistic development of these students and empowering their school, we are contributing to long-term community upliftment and sustainable growth.
At AFI Corp, we are committed to driving change through our AFI Cares initiative. With monthly outreach programs powered by our passionate team, we continue to pave the way for a better tomorrow—one school, one community, and one future at a time.
